An Introduction To Clogau Gold

Clogau is a gold mine located in Bontddu, near Barmouth in north-west Wales. It is sometimes referred to as Clogau St. David’s mine and has been producing gold since 1854. It started life as a copper and lead mine originally before moving on to gold when the then director, Mr Goodman, unwittingly discovered it. In the 49 years following 1862 the mine churned out a total of 2,442kg of gold during the ‘gold rush’ period.

Since 1911 the mine has gone through different periods of success, it has been opened and closed on many occasions and closed for the final time in 1998 because of the expense of mining and the lower quality of the gold being found. The small-scale mining in recent years went directly in to making theClogau gold jewellery that is world renowned. The bestselling items are the Clogau gold rings nowadays.

We’ve put together a selection of different Clogau items sold at Peter Jackson that demonstrate the range of Clogau products on offer.
