A relationship over 10 years old and still thriving, Citizen and the Red Arrows combine to create a collection of watches perfect for aviation and watch enthusiasts. Citizen, innovators revered for technology advancement in the watch world are the perfect partner to display the Red Arrows name and here is our guide to the collection.
The World-Famous Aerobatic Team
Founded in 1965 the Red Arrows is the world-famous aerobatic team of the Royal Air Force. Created to be the public face of the British Air force and inspire the next generation of servicemen, the Red Arrows is the most recognisable display team in the World. Having preformed in 57 countries in the distinctive red ‘Hawk Fast’ jet, the team of 9 nine pilots continue to dazzle at events all over the world.
Each pilot has extensive military front line experience with the Royal Air Force squadrons, and it is seen as being an honour to be selected to be a pilot of Red Arrows. Such is the lure and fandom of the Red Arrows that Citizen and stockists of Citizen watches such as ourselves, receive enquiries and sales from all parts of the world.
For any major military brand to sign their likeness over to a manufacturer of any goods, surely means that they believe in the quality of the products. With Red Arrows and Citizen Watches, we believe this is the perfect partnership and example of product to feature brand representation. With the purchase of a Citizen Red Arrows Watch, you will get a quality made, innovative, technology packed watch with the livery and branding of the Red Arrows to fittingly represent the Hawk Fast fighter jet itself.
Creation Of Citizen Red Arrows
September 2010 was the launch of the Citizen Red Arrows watch, so popular was this release selling over 10,000 units that it created the foundations for many generations of watches and still produced today. This first watch set the tone and showed the demand and appetite for such product was out there. Citizen to this day continue to create watches with so much tech for your money that savvy watch fans will not buy anything other than a Citizen watch, especially if they are spending less than a £1000.
Citizen later ‘tested the waters’ once more in November 2011 with their first limited edition Red Arrows model. Limited to only 500 pieces in a special display case with matching cufflinks, this watch again was a huge success. This time incorporating Citizens atomic-timekeeping eco-drive movement. Could you imagine if you had a pristine one today, what an amazing collector’s item to own!
Our own personal relationship with Citizen dates back to 1985, the days before computerised till points where every sale was handwritten but Citizen was inspiring the watch world with their amazing value products then. They invented their ‘Eco-Drive’ technology in 1976 and it’s amazing to think that thanks to their patent, no other watch movement with a power cell invented since has come close to this today. Even the big Swiss watch houses cannot produce a battery movement that provides the same reliability without breaking patent laws. We have seen Citizen continue to prosper and it’s been great to see the development of their Red Arrows collection.
The Current Red Arrows Collection
For 2023, Citizen has 9 watches as part of their Red Arrows collection all with different features and a mixed price range starting from just £279. Regardless of the model, the base of the movement before add-ons is built from the ground up using the Eco-Drive technology. Powered by any light (not just sunlight, artificial light too) the watches lithium-ion cell is constantly recharging providing a watch that never needs a battery change. Citizen is so confident of their Eco-Drive movements that all their watches regardless of price come with a 6-year warranty, amazing for watches of this price structure.
The Red Arrows collection, rightfully so, is curated with aviation and watch fans in mind. All the watches have some form of technology that is sure to wow research buyers. No one ever complains that they are not getting a lot of watch for their money. The base models at the very least feature ‘world time’, tracking 24 cities across the globe. They also feature other useful timekeeping tools such as a chronograph and the all-important Red Arrows branding and display case.
Moving into the higher price products, you find the kind of technology that any real watch geek loves to see, such as radio-controlled atomic clock synchronisation for superior accuracy; set your location and your watch will auto set the time, day, date month and year! Within these products you will also see limited edition releases, with numbered editions still proving to be popular and sell out over ten years since the first.
